A strategically connected European destination for MICE events

Photographer Raul Urbina

Connectivity is a key aspect to consider when choosing a destination for a congress, team building activity or incentive meeting. The Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees offer a combination that’s hard to beat: a strategic location, excellent connections and an extensive network of specialised services for events.

An hour from Barcelona and close to the south of France, this destination forms part of a natural north-south communications corridor that facilitates international mobility and positions the region as an attractive and efficient option for the European MICE market.

Furthermore, mobility between municipalities is fluid and efficient. The short distances between coast, city and mountain mean minimal travel time and allow congress centres, accommodation options and activities to be included in the same programme. This proximity simplifies the logistics of itinerant events and optimises the time of participants, an important aspect in MICE planning.

Europe within reach: a strategic location in Southern Europe

The Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees enjoy an exceptional location in Europe. Their proximity to large urban and economic centres allows events with international attendance to be organised without any major logistical challenges.

This destination is accessible and human-scale; two aspects that are highly valued by event organisers seeking to optimise the time, resources and experience of the participants. Getting there is easy, and moving around even easier.

Connectivity by air: a growing gateway

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is a strategic asset for the MICE sector, offering connections between 14 countries, 49 cities and 8 airlines, and direct access from key source markets.

The routes and destinations map, available on the GROwing platform, offers a quick way to consult up-to-date information about connections. The content is updated periodically, making it easier to plan events with international participants and to adapt to any operational changes.

Another advantage is the proximity to Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which is around an hour away. The airport provides intercontinental flights, offering even more travel possibilities.

Connectivity by land: speed and European links

Another of the destination’s strong points are its road and rail connections. The AP-7 motorway and an extensive network of modern roads link Girona to Barcelona, France and the rest of the Iberian peninsula, making it easy to arrive by both public or private transport.

As regards rail transport, the high-speed trains (AVE and TGV) place Girona and Figueres in an unbeatable position, being only 38 minutes from Barcelona, 3.5 hours from Madrid and less than 6 hours from Paris.

Both stations offer a direct link to European cities, which is a clear advantage for international congresses and meetings seeking to reduce travel time and associated emissions.

Connectivity by sea: a different way to arrive, with added value

The Mediterranean has historically been one of the main gateways to the Costa Brava. Today, this tradition translates into new opportunities for the MICE sector.

The cruise ports of Palamós and Roses, in addition to the numerous marinas along the coast, allows the planning of tailored nautical events, incentive activities and unique arrival options, lending a differential element to any corporate programme.
